From the brand A Culture for Every Meal
Whether you're a DIY-er looking for a new hobby, a burgeoning chef, or just want a healthier gut, Cultures for Health has just what you need! We believe that everyone's life can be improved by adding more homemade probiotics from cultured and fermented foods to their diet. From sourdough to kombucha to yogurt and beyond, we're here to help you start your rewarding journey into a natural, gut-healthy lifestyle.
Cultures for Health was founded upon the pursuit of sustainable living and a deeper understanding of traditionally prepared, extremely nourishing foods. Today, our team includes bakers, brewers, cheesemakers, and more—a group passionate about the benefits of culturing and fermentation. We love homemade cultured and fermented foods and beverages for their healthy goodness, delicious taste, and rewarding DIY experience. There's nothing quite like fresh-baked sourdough or bubbly kombucha made entirely from scratch.
Homemade cheese offers a more natural, higher caliber than you'll ever get at the supermarket. Unprocessed cheese is full of nutrients, including good bacteria for stronger gut health, more protein, calcium, and vitamins, and it's easier to digest than milk. Plus, it's a fun and fulfilling pastime that's cost-effective, too. With our Cheesemaking Kit, you can make your own stretchy mozzarella and creamy ricotta with ease.
This kit includes everything you need to get started: citric acid to lower the milk's pH, vegetable rennet to separate the curd from the whey, non-iodized cheese salt to help preserve the cheese, a cooking thermometer, and fine-weave cheesecloth. Our step-by-step instructions provide comprehensive directions for making both mozzarella and ricotta, as well as troubleshooting advice and a recipe for your finished cheese.
We include enough rennet and citric acid to make up to 12 lbs of mozzarella, plus traditional ricotta from the whey. You can also use these same tools and ingredients to try your hand at other cheeses like queso fresco, chenna, and Amish melting cheese. Ricotta takes about an hour to prepare and will need to drain for 1-6 hours, while traditional mozzarella takes at least 4-5 hours, though our recipe only takes 30 minutes with practice.
Don't just throw out the leftover whey! Whey can be used as a cooking liquid, a starter culture for fermenting vegetables, a nutrient boost in smoothies or drinks, to make whey cheese, or added to compost.
Our DIY kits make wonderful gifts for anyone you know, from cooking lovers to health enthusiasts to jacks-of-all trades—or just for you! They always have high-quality, gluten-free, non-GMO ingredients, and are vegetarian-friendly. So why not try your hand at homemade cheese or another cultured creation today?
